THE MARRIAGE COVENANT SERVICE

 

PREPARATION :

 - Both spouses-to-be, families, church elders and priest conduct preparation at the ‘Konsistori’ room

 - The priest administers the marriage covenant inventory of spouses-to-be, parents and names of witnesses

 - Prayer for the marriage covenant service

The Psalms say: ”Praise the LORD, my soul, praise His holy name and do not forget how kind He is.”  We shall be grateful for the LORD’s blessing to all families of the bride-to-be and groom-to-be, as we now are gathering in His holy church.  Let us praise the LORD by singing the hymn from  Suplemen BE No. 581

L : In the name of the LORD Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit, that creates the earth and universe,  we proceed this marriage covenant service.

C : Amen.

L : Then the LORD God said, ”It is not good for the man to live alone. I will make a suitable companion to help him”.  

C : Then the LORD God made the man fall into a deep sleep, and while he was sleeping, He took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the flesh.

L : He formed a woman out of the rib and brought her to him.

5. THE RITE OF MARRIAGE COVENANT

L :  The happy congregation loved by the LORD Jesus Christ. To bride-to-be and groom-to-be, their families and all of you, we are now prooceding to the rite of Marriage Covenant (Janji Nikah or Partumpolon ).

A.  THE READING OF  MARRIAGE INTENT OF THE BRIDE-TO-BE    AND GROOM-TO-BE.

Now,  bride-to-be and groom-to-be  are requested to move forward, and all you who are gathered here are required to follow and pay fully attention to this.

Herewith our promise:

1. We intend to live in a marriage binding with full of  love and care in accordance with the  holy cristianity marriage

2. We will respect and be devoted to each other, and not divorce until the death does us apart.

3. We will abide by and follow the Rule  &  Regulation of HKBP

4. Our denomination is legitimate, and should there be any matters that hinder our marriage plan, we will resolve them so that we are eligible to get the matrimonial service.

The happy congregation loved by the LORD Jesus Christ, we all have heard the  marriage intent which I just completely read. This is the time for me to confirm the seriousness of  bride-to be, groom-to-be  and their parents.

B. INQUIRY TO BRIDE-TO-BE  AND GROOM-TO-BE

   Liturgist: Now, I am asking bride-to-be and groom-to-be, are you both fully committed to the marriage intent as I have read?

Bride-to-be and Groom-to-be:  YES, WE  ARE. MAY THE LORD JESUS, STRENGTHEN AND BLESS US

C. INQUIRY TO PARENTS OF GROOM-TO-BE  

Liturgist: Now, I am inviting parents of groom-to-be and please do stand up.

Do you agree to support and pray for their intent as written in the letter of marriage intent which I have read?

   Parents of groom-to-be:

Yes, we do. We will support what have been stated in the letter of marriage intent as we heard. May the LORD Jesus strengthen and bless our son’s marriage intent.

D. INQUIRY TO PARENTS OF BRIDE-TO-BE  

Liturgist: I also invite parents of bride-to-be to stand up.

Do you agree to support and pray for their intent as written in the letter of marriage intent?

As we are about to proceed to the signing of the letter  of marriage intent, we now invite:
